Community Involvement

Kiewit has always taken great pride in good stewardship, whether it be legal, ethical or social responsibilities. As a great example of this, MEC Transportation and the South Central District teamed up recently and donated $25,000 each to a local foundation in Irving, TX. This gift was significant for Irving Cares, accounting for nearly 20% of their annual corporate contributions.

Taking it to The (Food) Bank

During the month of March, the MEC-I Boston office gathered food to be donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB). The idea came from one of our own employees, Craig Hollingworth, and our overall donation was 140 pounds of food. The GBFB distributes more than 34 million pounds of food and groceries annually to approximately 550 member hunger-relief agencies and 30 Food Bank direct service programs throughout eastern Massachusetts. For more information on the GBFB visit www.gbfb.org. Thank you to all who contributed food for this worthy cause.

For the 2011 United Way pledge year, MEC Industrial employees, located at all our project and office sites, donated $17,672. As part of this year's fundraising effort, employees CHALLENGED MEC-I to make a 10% match on payroll contributions over $260, bringing the total to $18,400. Kiewit Companies Foundation will match the total another 50%, bringing the overall total donated to the United Way $27,600. MEC-I will continue to raise funds for the United Way throughout 2011 with various events, including our upcoming, Third Annual MEC-I United Way Golf Outing.
