On April 11, 2006, in conjunction with Reid Electric, Mass. Electric Construction Co. electricians got to work on the electrical wiring and setting of a 248-foot, 6,660kW turbine for Mass Maritime Academy.

The installation consisted of beacon lights and lighting inside of the nacelle, anemometer/wind vane, pulling and installation of 500MCM cable from the nacelle to the base of the tower to the transformer, running cable in the top section of the tower to the rotor and controller and all connections to switchgear in the control room.

Mass. Electric was an electrical subcontractor for the installation of the 248-foot tall, Vestas V47 660kW Wind Turbine. The turbine provides approximately one third of the academy’s annual power needs and saves about $300,000 each year.
