Replacement of Rocky Point Substation

Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) and Kiewit Pacific Company (Kiewit/Mass, A Joint Venture) are working together on the construction of the new Rocky Point Pump Station for Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD). MEC’s relationship with OCSD dates back to 2005 when we were the electrical contractor on the Orange County Sludge Project.

Construction includes a below ground, wet well/pump room and an above ground electrical control building. MEC crews will install and perform the following:

* Install:
  - over 10,000 LF of conduit
  - over 31,000 LF of cable
  - new switch gear and power distribution
  - lighting
  - temporary power
  - four (4) new pumps and appurtenances, instrumentation and controls
* Perform start up and commissioning
* Demolish the existing pump station and associated utilities

Project construction involves coordination with several state and private agencies, including Caltrans, Air Quality Management District (AQMD), the City of Newport Beach, Southern California Edison and AT&T (communications provider).
