Since our first transportation project in Boston in 1955, MEC has grown to become the nationwide leader in the construction and maintenance of transportation and rail systems. MEC’s long-standing reputation and proven ability empowers clients to complete their projects on time and within budget.

Just some of the transportation and rail projects MEC has been involved in are:

Transportation Expansion Project (T-REX) - Denver, CO
Owner: Regional Transportation District (RTD)
General Contractor: Southeast Corridor Constructors
Completion Date: 2006
On this $1.2 billion design-build project, MEC is installing the traction electrification, signaling and communications systems along a new, 19-mile light rail corridor. MEC is also responsible for a new Operations Control Center (OCC), and signal modifications and a new communications system on three existing lines.

Light Rail Double Track Project: Signals, Signal Power & Communications - Baltimore, MD
Owner: Maryland Transit Administration
General Contractor: General Electric Transportation Systems (GETS)
Completion Date: 2006
MEC is installing new signal, signal power and communications equipment and cable along the entire 29-mile Central Light Rail Line allowing for MTA to increase the number of trains on their existing system. MEC is responsible for furnishing 29 miles of cable trough and additional ductbank systems.

Light Rail Double Track Project: Overhead Contact System - Baltimore, MD
Owner: Maryland Transit Administration
General Contractor: MEC
Completion Date: 2006
MEC is installing new OCS in the new double track areas of the Central Light Rail Line. In total, MEC is installing 105,000' of new OCS and modifying 95,000' of OCS to make way for new runs and configuration changes. MEC is reconfiguring switching arrangements along the entire 29-mile corridor, installing 53,000' of new 1000MCM DC cable, and installing traction power ductbanks in existing double track areas.

Pasadena Blue Line - Los Angeles, CA
Owner: Blue Line Construction Authority
General Contractor: Kiewit-Washington
Completion Date: 2003
MEC installed the traction electrification, signaling and communications systems along a new, 17-mile light rail corridor.

LA Metrolink Maintenance - Los Angeles, CA
Owner: Southern California Regional Railroad Authority (SCRRA)
General Contractor: MEC
Completion Date: On-going
Complete maintenance services for the signal and communications systems for the 350 mile Metrolink commuter rail system.

West End Line Signals - New York, NY
Owner: NYCT
General Contractor: Alstom Signaling Inc.
Completion Date: 2002
Installation of signal system replacement on West End Line under revenue service.

DART Signals - Dallas, TX
Owner: Dallas Area Rapid Transit
General Contractor: Union Switch & Signal, Inc.
Completion Date:2002
Installation of automatic block signal system including TWC and traffic signal pre-emption for new light rail extension.

DART Communications - Dallas, TX
Owner: Dallas Area Rapid Transit
General Contractor: MEC
Completion Date: 2002
Designed, furnished, and installed complete communications system and control center for light rail extension.

Tren Urbano - San Juan, Puerto Rico
Owner: DTOP
General Contractor: Siemens Transportation Systems
Completion Date: 2002
Installation of traction power, control center, and train control systems, and design, furnish and install complete communications system for new 10.4 mile heavy rail system.

SEPTA Market Frankford Automatic Signals - Philadelphia, PA
Owner:Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority
General Contractor: Alstom Signaling, Inc.
Completion Date: 2001
Installation of replacement signal and negative return systems on existing subway line under revenue service.

Metro de Valencia - Valencia, Venezuela
Owner: Metro de Valencia
General Contractor: Siemens Transportation Systems
Completion Date: 2003
Installation of overhead contact (catenary) system, traction power system, control center, and signal systems and design, furnish and install communications system for new 4 mile underground light rail system.
