Potomac Yard Station
The WMATA Potomac Yard Station is a new station added on the Blue and Yellow lines between National Airport and Braddock Station, providing walkable access to the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus and regional transportation systems, including dedicated bus lanes along Richmond Highway for residents in Northeast Alexandria.
The station includes two pavilions connected by a pedestrian bridge installed over top CSX right-of-way, a standalone AC Building to power the station and a new traction-power tie breaker station.
Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) installed all electrical and systems infrastructure as well as the installation and testing all electrical, public address, CCTV, intercom, fiber optic, fire alarm, access control, intrusion, emergency trip, traction power and automatic train control systems. To facilitate the installation of a new station in an existing line, MEC provided traction power upgrades to four existing WMATA traction power substations & one traction-power tie breaker station, fiber optic upgrades to five existing facilities, and automatic train control upgrades in two adjacent train control rooms.
