DELAWARE RIVER BRIDGE SECURITY SYSTEM

Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) was the prime contractor for the installation of a security system on eighteen bridges over the Delaware River. The scope of work included the installation of 300 CCTV cameras covering a span of 140 miles and included seven facilities.

The contract was administered under split milestones; the first five sites were completed in thirteen months from issuance of notice to proceed, and the remaining facilities were completed nineteen months from issuance of notice to proceed. The contract included a three year maintenance period, with a two-year option to extend the maintenance period to a total of five years.

The scope of work included the design of the complete system to produce the infrastructure for eighteen project locations in thirteen months, complete procurement and installation of all electrical infrastructures for all sites, integration of the eighteen fiber option networks with two remote control centers via a MPLS WAN network, and maintenance of the entire system for three years from substantial completion. Prior to design, MEC completed detailed video analysis optimization of each location which allowed the elimination of some components, thereby streamlining the process.
