The Mass. Electric team was selected to maintain 512 miles of the signals and communications system across five counties in southern California with over 230 trains that run daily carrying more than 50,ooo riders.

Maintenance of the signal and communication systems includes more than 360 at-grade crossings, 108 control points, 340 dual power control switch machines, and 135 hand throw switches. MEC’s communications department exclusively maintains more than 360 crossing radios, including Pak set radios for on-ground personnel, mobile radios for trucks, on-track equipment and locomotive rolling stock. The communications group also has oversight on six mountain-top sites, microwave systems, fiber optic network and more than 100 control point radios and 55+ stations.

The MS222-09 contract for maintenance services includes daily federal-railroad-mandated tests and inspections, as well as support of construction, rehabilitation and various extraordinary projects such as radio base positive train control. The contract also includes staffing at the Metrolink operations center that provides trouble call management, the radio dispatching system for train operation and train control system. Mass Electric supports this entire project by providing 24/7 response service.
