PHOENIX CENTRAL MESA EXTENSION

The Central Mesa LRT Extension is a 3.1-mile, double track) extension of the existing Central Phoenix/East Valley Light Rail Transit (LRT) line from its eastern terminus at Sycamore and Main Streets in west Mesa to a new terminus at Mesa Drive and Main Street in central Mesa. The project included four new at grade passenger stations and a park-and-ride facility.

Valley Transit Constructors (VTC) a Kiewit/Mass. Electric joint venture performed this design-build project with Parsons Transportation Group serving as the lead designer and team member.

Mass. Electric Construction Co.’s scope of work on this project involved procurement and installation of the systems package for this light rail line. Details include three new 2.0-MW TPSS units, 123 OCS poles, 253 cantilevers, approximately 85,000 linear feet of messenger and contact wire, 26,500 linear feet of feeder cable, 85,000 linear feet of fiber optic cable, and four interlockings. Other work included signaling and train control equipment, communication devices (CCTV, PA, VMS, telephone system, Radio communications system), SCADA and electrical work at the new passenger stations.
