WATSON GENERATING STATION

WATSON GENERATING STATION

Braintree, Massachusetts

MEC was the prime electrical subcontractor for this 116-MW generating station built on 2 acres of land adjacent to an existing power plant. Two 50-MW gas turbine generators connected to two 70-MVA transformers (GSUs) — all owner-supplied — feed the power grid at 115kV.

MEC’s work included installation of:

  • 15kV switches
  • Service station transformers
  • Medium-voltage starters for gas compressors
  • Four 480V switchgear motor control centers
  • Structure to house the electrical equipment
  • All conduit and wiring (extensive duct banks)
  • Ancillary electrical equipment
